RTSoft has been contracted for complete design of Multifunctional Avionics Display.

Moscow, Russia, June 2002 – RTSoft jsc., a leading provider of software development services, has announced that it has been selected by major Avionics Manufacturer as a primary contractor for the design of new generation of Multifunctional Avionics Display.

“Openness, Modularity and Serviceability are the key words in avionics industry, because of great cost reduction during product life cycle,” said Alexander Kaliadin, business development manager at RTSoft. “Proprietary solutions are being replaced everywhere by COTS based products. In our case customer wanted to move away from proprietary PowerPC based design to open, scaleable platform, based on standard RTOS and COTS hardware. And we have delivered that and more.”

Multifunctional Avionics Display (MAD) combines in one 3U CPCI rugged chassis:
  • Acquisition of numerous plane data via ARINC 429;
  • Acquisition of Radar Data via ARINC 708;
  • Video camera overlay on the screen;
  • Porting VxWorks on selected PowerPC CPU card;
  • Porting VAPS™ on VxWorks™ RTOS
  • Development of accelerated graphics driver for 3DLabs based card;
  • Binding all components together into compact modular software solution.

Prototype is shown in the desktop development chassis.

According to Kaliadin, “Modularity of this design has opened the door for our customer into hassle-free upgrade and maintenance. In order to support 3D maps capability, customer would just need to replace current PMC card with more powerful one and upgrade VxWorks driver to support 3D acceleration. New interfaces can be easily added into the system without affecting current design or performance. Top-down design cycle from VAPS modeling to direct code generation guaranties minimum time spent on engineering and quicker time-to-market.”
