RTSoft rewrites BIOS for Digital Logic CPU core.

Moscow, Russia, July 2002 – RTSoft jsc., a leading provider of software development services, has announced that it has been selected by major Avionics Manufacturer to provide BIOS code replacement for use with Digital Logic™ CPU modules based equipment.

“Intel based CPU models offer numerous advantages to OEM manufacturers including low prices, abundance of tools and software and wide availability of experienced developers,” said Alexander Kaliadin, business development manager at RTSoft. “But if you plan to use to for such applications like avionics, you must have available in source code all pieces of software you are about to run on this board. Despite on the fact that you might know everything about software you have written, there is one road block – BIOS. Licensing BIOS from manufacturer usually turns into very expensive adventure. Our customer was looking for alternative solutions and we came with offer to replace BIOS with our own.”

According to Kaliadin, “As a result of our effort customer got not only working BIOS with full source code, but also additional customized functions tailored to legacy hardware environment. For example our BIOS included advanced bootstrapping capabilities like fetching an ADA image over proprietary bus from non-volatile storage and loading it into memory. Significant cost savings allowed customer to concentrate right away on the DO-178B certification process. RTSoft also helped customer with code coverage and verification.”

“ We are very pleased with results,” adds Kaliadin. “ It was a difficult project, but we had completed it on time which was critical to our customer. We are hoping that we both will benefit from our experience. This module will serve as a generic computer core for several types of avionics equipment in next couple of years.”
